Saniderm Instructions
Saniderm may be worn for up to 5 days, but can be removed at any point before the 5 day mark. You can shower with the saniderm sticker on. However, do not submerge the tattoo until it is fully healed (2 weeks). Submerging the tattoo with saniderm applied does not guarantee protection from the bacteria found in pools, lakes, jacuzzis, or the ocean and may result in infection. No baths. You will notice fluid build up or blurriness underneath the saniderm sticker. This is completely normal. The fluid is excess ink, plasma, and blood. The fluid trapped underneath the sticker is what helps heal the tattoo. If fluid begins to leak out of the sticker, remove the saniderm. Fluid leaking out means the seal is broken and the sticker will no longer protect your tattoo from bacteria. If the sticker begins to come up on its own, meaning the edges are peeling up, remove the saniderm. Some people may experience a mild allergic reaction to the adhesive or experience irritation from the sticker pulling on the skin. If any redness appears around the border of the sticker or if it is causing general discomfort, remove the sticker. When you are ready to remove the sticker, do so in the shower. Warm water will help loosen up the adhesive and make removal easier.Once you remove the sticker, continue to take care of the tattoo as you normally would. Keep the tattoo clean with dial soap twice a day and apply a small amount of aquaphor or non-scented lotion to moisturize.
Traditional Aftercare
Wash your fresh tattoo twice a day for the first week, once in the morning and once in the evening. For the first few days, apply a thin layer of aquaphor to moisturize the tattoo throughout the day or at the minimum after you wash your tattoo. Applying aquaphor will help prevent the buildup of lymphatic fluid and subsequent scabbingl. Only a small amount of aquaphor should be used. Overdoing the amount of aquaphor will prevent the tattoo from being able to 'breathe'.Several days into the healing process, your tattoo may begin to peel and flake much like a sunburn. At this point, begin to apply a non-scented lotion to moisturize instead of aquaphor. Your tattoo may also appear 'waxy'. This is temporary as dead skin cells continue to shed during the healing process. If you are engaging in an activity where you are sweating, wash your tattoo after you have concluded your activity.Avoid gyms for at least the first few days after getting a tattoo. Bacteria such as a strep and staph are frequently found in gym spaces and may result in infection if your fresh tattoo comes into contact with this type of bacteria.Do not submerge your tattoo for the first two weeks or until fully healed. No baths, pools, jacuzzis, or other bodies of water such as lakes and the ocean.During the second week of healing, wash your tattoo with Dial soap just once a day during your normal shower. Moisturize with non scented lotion.
